Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What does "WEE" stand for?

WEE is an abbreviation for Work Experience Education, an academic department that allows SRJC students to earn college credit for paid or unpaid internships related to their field of study, volunteer positions or jobs. WEE courses bridge classroom learning with workplace application, focusing on developing new skills, career exploration and meeting learning objectives.

What does "EIF" stand for?

EIF is an acronym for Employment Information Form. The EIF includes information about the students employer, supervisor, and best methods to reach the student. This form is required when you enroll in a WEE course and is linked to enrollment.

What does "SPA" stand for?

SPA is an acronym for Supervisor Participation Agreement form. When you enroll in a WEE course, your job, internship, or volunteer supervisor completes the SPA form agreeing to participate. Their support is an important part of your success, and this form ensures they understand their role and expectations.

Does the Work Experience Education Department find a job or internship for me?

Students are expected to find their own job/internship. For internship assistance, the Internship Coordinator will help brainstorm and empower students in the internship process. Another resource for potential jobs/internships is the SRJC Online Job Board: Learn About Handshake. To enroll in a Work Experience (WEE 97) or Internship (WEE 99i) course you must have a position with a licensed business prior to enrollment.

I currently do unpaid or volunteer work, can I enroll in Work Experience?

You may be eligible to participate in an Internship course if the volunteer position is directly related to your major. If you are planning to volunteer in your community, you will want to take the Volunteer Course, WEE 95. Please refer to the Work Experience Education Classes page for a description of these courses.

If I change jobs during the semester, how will that affect my Work Experience course?

The answer varies depending upon how far into the semester it is when you change jobs. The best thing to do is contact your instructor as soon as you know you may change jobs. Your instructor will direct you on how to proceed.

Be ready to provide:

  1. Your new place of employment
  2. Name of your new supervisor
  3. New supervisor's email and phone number
How do I change the number of units I enrolled in?

The number of units you enroll in is determined by how many hours you work or volunteer. If you want to change units, you can drop the course you are in and enroll in the appropriate section number as long as you do it during the open enrollment period.

After open enrollment, please consult with your WEE instructor about changing the number of units you are enrolled in. There is a deadline to increase units. It is always the same date indicated on the SRJC Academic Calendar as "Last day to drop a class with a W". A petition to decrease units can be filed up to the day grades are posted.

Other things to consider when changing units:

  • If you are decreasing units after the Academic Calendar date for "Last day to drop a semester-length class and be eligible for a refund ", you will not receive a refund
  • If you are increasing units, you will be responsible for the associated fees
How do I make changes to the learning goals I submitted?

Discuss the changes with your supervisor/mentor and contact your assigned instructor immediately.

Can I take Work Experience courses more than once?

Yes, WEE classes can be repeated.

If I am repeating a Work Experience course, do I have to complete the EIF and SPA again?

Yes, all forms are required each semester even if you are at the same internship, work or volunteer organization.

Do Work Experience units apply toward graduation at SRJC?

Yes, WEE units apply toward the 60 units needed to earn an Associate's degree and also apply toward Local Area 8 of the SRJC General Education requirements.

Are Work Experience units transferable?

Yes, WEE units transfer to the CSU system.
